The Inspiration Behind Seek Baby Names

Published October 10, 2026

Seek Baby Names started with a simple wish: a place to look at any baby name quickly and easily, without it feeling like homework. Here's the story behind the site and what we care about.

Why we started it

We wanted to be able to view any name quickly, without scrolling through rows and rows of a spreadsheet. Baby names are a happy thing to explore, and the tools for it should feel that way too. We also wanted to help other parents find inspiration, and to make it a fun and engaging way for partners to share ideas with one another.

What we wanted to do differently

While looking around at other baby name sites, a few things kept getting in the way:

  • Too much information at once. Many pages put a wall of details in front of you before you've even found a name you like.
  • Sign-ups. Some sites asked you to create an account just to save a few names.
  • Layouts that were hard to use. Many weren't easy to navigate, whether on a phone or on a computer.

What Seek Baby Names does instead

  • Names come to you. The page opens with a fresh set of featured names, and the Shuffle button deals out more whenever you want some inspiration.
  • You're in control. Search for a name, filter by first letter, girl, boy or gender neutral, show only names with a meaning, or switch between A–Z and Popular. Everything is a tap away.
  • Just the right amount of detail. Names start out simple. Tap one to see more, including a chart of how its popularity has changed over the years.
  • No account needed. You can save the names you love with a tap of the heart, and they stay on your own device.
  • Made for sharing. Turn your saved names into a simple page to send to a partner, family member or friend, so choosing a name can be something you do together.
  • Works on phones and computers. The layout is designed to feel comfortable on a small screen and on a large one.

Where the names come from

Every name and number comes from the U.S. Social Security Administration's public baby name data, which goes back to 1880. You can read more on the About page, or see how baby name popularity works.
